Seldom Point (Info page)

A 5 episode miniseries about the lives and struggles of a group of teenagers in the small town of Seldom Point.

Production

Fröy spent some time creating the soccer pitch with its adjacent dressing room, before downloading community-made lots for the empty-by-default world Newcrest to try and capture an American suburban environment. He then recorded all five episodes before sending the footage to Llunkttut for editing.

Fröy initially played with the idea to make it a comedic series, specifically a parody of the typical soap opera. Eventually, he decided against it in favor of a drama.

Trivia

  • In the first episode, Miriam's soccer team is practicing for a match against Dale University, the same school that Lily goes to in Building Confidence.
  • The homes of the main characters were all placed on the same street, in order to heighten the sense of a tight-knit suburban neighborhood.
  • Seldom Point is located close to the unnamed city where the Samantha Beasley stories take place. It's that same city Hannah and Jennifer move to in the sequel.
  • Hannah has a Bullet For My Valentine poster in her bedroom.
  • The "movie" that Evan, Hannah and Diego are watching in episode 2 is an early test recording of Noblian Chronicles.
  • Both Hannah's and Miriam's mothers are named "Gloria." This was a mistake from Fröy which went unnoticed until Llunkttut pointed it out, after he believed he had mixed the two up during editing.
  • In the sequel, the news talk about Miriam's disappearance at the hands of the Coach, and mentions that she's still missing.
  • Hannah's line of not liking Seldom Point because "nothing ever happens" there is meant to symbolize the whole series and the idea behind it: Even in the most boring small towns, there are human tragedies around every corner if you just look close enough. This is also reflected in the first episode's ironic title, "Nothing Ever Happens in Seldom Point."
